Last week in class we discussed the six language arts and I was surprised that viewing and visually representing was on the list. I normally see visually representing as simply artistic and viewing as entertainment. I definitely see the benefit of viewing and visually representing being used in the classroom because it ties things that children are interested in with curriculum. Viewing a video can make language arts have a unique facet and bring it to life for the children. Media seems to control the lives of students, but by incorporating it into the classroom the children will see that media can be educational.
Through the year I have enjoyed the reading and writing parts of language arts. Language arts has always been a subject that I have enjoyed. As a child I read a lot, especially the Mary Kate and Ashley books. As far as writing goes, I struggled with it during the earlier years of high school. I had an amazing English teacher and she worked with me and now I love to write and typically get good grades on writing. So, what once intimidated me I now enjoy. I hope to encourage my children in areas of language arts that may intimidate them.
